Laser Accents HomeExplanation of bitmap resolution.

Resolution ( dpi = dots per inch )
Bitmap images are made up of a grid of square dots. Each dot can either be black or white. A 1 inch tall logo at 72 dpi would contain 72 dots in height.  Typical resolution of images on your computer screen are 72 dpi. So let's say for example you have a logo that is 1 inch tall at 72 dpi resolution. If it is viewed on screen it will be 1 inch tall and look pretty good. Quality Engraving (or printing on paper) requires 300 to 600 dpi resolution —at the size to be engraved. That same 1 inch tall image engraved at 300 dpi will be less than 1/4" inch tall (.240") or look rough and jaggy engraved at the original 1 inch tall. See the following examples.
1" tall 72 dpi image resolution, as seen on screen.
SAME image, as seen by engraver at 300 dpi resolution. Or what it would look like engraved at original 1 inch tall.
It would only engrave this size! (about 1/4" tall) at 300 dpi.

The quantity of dots remain the same, they just get larger. It is OK to go smaller, so don't worry about sending logo to big, we will make it smaller. Here are resolution examples to print.
